combing cooking and computational thinking in the classroom
Cali Hodge
Hey all, my name is Cali Hodge! I am an eager student, hopeful educator, critical thinker, and outdoor enthusiast. I believe that children (in age and in spirit!) should have the change to explore the outdoors and engage in critical thinking through hands-on activities. I’ve worked in a variety of summer camp, outdoor school, and active play settings – and look forward to bringing the energy and enthusiasm from these environments into this project! I’ve always held cooking close to my heart, and believe that food is best experienced when prepared and enjoyed in good company. Through this project, I hope to channel my passion for play and for cooking into curriculum that promotes computational thinking by challenging students to problem-solve, to create, and to work as a team. I am a current junior at the University of Oregon, studying within the Robert D. Clark Honors College as an Educational Foundations major and Spanish minor. Upon graduation, I hope to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer through Playworks, combing a passion for social justice and a strong belief in the social and developmental importance of play. My favorite flavor of ice cream is lavender, which I love to enjoy after a long run through Eugene’s beautiful river paths. I’m excited to embark on this project, and hope that you find it engaging and applicable in the classroom!
