Why is the ORSN needed?

The College of Education (COE) establishment of the Oregon Research Schools Network (ORSN) is an effort to improve the academic and career outcomes for youth by placing University of Oregon faculty members in districts and buildings across the state. This would position the UO COE as the first college of education in the nation that extends service (Professional Development), instruction (dual credit classes), and research into schools statewide.

Colleges and schools of agriculture serve their states through their Agricultural Extension Service. Colleges and schools of education do not. We want to change this. We have a plan to become the first college of education in the nation to extend our service, instruction, and research statewide through establishment of the Oregon Research Schools Network (ORSN). Just as Ag Extension helps farmers produce better crops, we will improve the academic and career outcomes for youth.

We are already improving the educational experience of over 95% of students in Oregon through our vast research. But, not everyone can come to Eugene to access our service, instruction, and research. With the establishment of the ORSN, the College of Education will bring our rich intellectual resources and best education science to schools throughout Oregon. Read on for our full network design.
