Section 3: Transmediations

Here is a list of at least seven (7) transmedia resources I found useful when creating this field guide.

1.  Bee Becky. Cob Builders Handbook. Groundworks, 1997. Book.

I personally own this book and have read it many times. It provides a detailed overview and in depth analysis of what cob is, how to cob, its participants, and many other technical aspects of the building material cob. The informal nature in which Becky Bee writes makes the reader feel more connected and empowered.

2.    Smith, Michael. 2015. Natural Building Colloquium Southwest. Retrieved from: http://www.networkearth.org/naturalbuilding/history.html

This website had great historical information about where the term cob came from and how it progressed in Europe. It also gave some information about Oregon cob and the possible future of it as a building material.

3.    Stenkjaer, Nicolaj. 2011. Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy. Retrieved from: http://www.folkecenter.net/gb/documentation/cob_building/

This was a small informational website that had photographs of cob structures as well as a general overview of different aspects of cob.

   4.   I Love Cob Photo Gallery. Retrieved from: http://ilovecob.com/gallery/main.php

This website really just contained photos of the cobbing process and completed structures from all over the country. Lots of great photos that really helped to expand my knowledge of the step-by-step process of building with cob.

5. Sheen, David. 2015. First Earth: Uncompromising Ecological Architecture. Retrieved from:http://www.ilovecob.com/ashan/pdx2005/toc.htm

This website helped me with my listings of cob structures in Oregon. I didn’t list every one that they have, so feel free to click around on their site for a more comprehensive list of structures in Portland!

6.  Cob Projects. Retrieved from: http://www.cobprojects.info/index.htm

This website was a great index for photos, specific sites, and other miscellaneous information about cob. Found some structures in Oregon I was able to list.

7.   Cob Cottage Company. Retrieved from: https://www.cobcottage.com

This website has a good description of what cob is, questions and answers, and a really cute video about cob!

**Many other sites were sourced for photographs and miscellaneous cobbing information, see “sources” at the bottom of each page.
