Building with cob is easy and fun! Due to the nature of earthen buildings using less technology and more manual labor, cobbing requires more time and human labor than conventional buildings. This all can take quite a bit of time, so having friends, family, workshops, volunteers, or anyone else to come out to learn and participate is usually commonplace. “Cob parties”, are another way for those building to acquire enough labor to create larger structures; they offer people with similar interests a chance to come out, learn new skills or hone their previous cobbing skills, and to generally socialize. Unlike most conventional home building experiences, working one-on-one with an architect or builder, most often, many people come together to lend a hand in the building process. The collective nature of cob building brings people from all communities and age groups together to create.

With alternative building materials like cob, straw bale, cored wood, rammed earth, and even trash becoming more popular and acceptable, this could change social conventions and offer perspectives on sustainable living to new audiences. The immediacy of the internet and transmedia resources exposes cob as an alternative building material to new possible participants.
