Learning and Student Support

Accessing support is key to academic success. Students who get the support they need are able to focus more on learning. Support might be connecting with community, accessing tutoring, or knowing where to go when you’ve got a challenge you can’t solve alone.

Many UO students have a more positive and successful experience at UO by:

    1. Accessing mental health support through Counseling Services, which provides quality, confidential, and culturally-affirming mental health services and support to all enrolled UO students, regardless of immigration status or country of origin. Check out their homepage. to learn more or call 541-346-3227 to schedule an appointment.
    2. Getting study skills and tutoring support. Most of us were not taught effective studying or course work strategies, but learning them can save time and stress. The Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center. helps UO students enhance their learning and success through tutoring, classes and workshops, and individual consultations.
    3. Connecting with the Accessible Education Center (AEC) if you have a disability and could use support. Did you know that at UO, 10% of students use the Accessible Education Center. (AEC), and 20% of undergraduates nationally identify as having a disability? Many conditions can be a disability, like depression, ASD, or mobility challenges. The AEC has a range of support services, including note-taking, sign language interpretation and adaptive technology. Connect with them at 541-346-1155 or uoaec@uoregon.edu.
    4. Getting help with basic needs like food assistance. Did you know that 1-in-3 students struggle with food while in college? If this is you or a friend there are a ton of free resources to help you access food including the Student Food Pantry and SNAP benefits. Check out important food, housing, and other resources on the UO Basic Needs Blog.
    5. Connecting with identity-specific community. For many of us, connecting around our cultures and identities is key to our success and sense of belonging! Check out the Dean of Student’s Community page. for just some of the many options for finding communities that sustain you. Dreamer and undocumented students can also connect to UO Dreamer resources and support.
    6. Talking with advising. Your advisor is one of the most important connections you’ll have at UO. They can help you and reach your academic goals. Not sure who to contact for advising? The Connect with Advisors page. will get you where you need to go.
    7. Supporting physical wellbeing with movement and health care. There are many ways to support our physical wellbeing; the Student Recreation Center is a great place to get active for every body. University Health Services offers a variety of health care services for enrolled UO students.
    8. Accessing Library resources & connect with librarians. Help is available 24-7 for your research-related questions and they offer a number of services to support you academically
