Social Media Podcast the story of the League of Women Voters Letter

Central Focus/Angle

I will represent the League of the Women Voters Letter, part of the archive. Since the larger picture of this specific story connects to such a large audience, I felt it was a great focal point. Essentially, I think it would be fantastic to express the investigation of the League of the Women Voters Letter on minority groups in Eugene and the conditions that affect them. I think there are so many compelling aspects to this story that help convey a central point that the League of the Women Voters Letter was trying to express. Although in doing so in a more modern way, I feel it would reach a larger audience and gain more attraction to help this issue.

Main Claims

With this idea, the point of view would be to convey the history rooted in Eugene, Oregon, the issues it has had and continue to have, and highlight ways to make changes. I believe there is a difference between simply telling someone a story and telling someone a story that includes how the audience can get involved. I want to illustrate the importance of the investigation conducted by the League of the Women Voters Letter. Then I think having people connect the significance of that story to how it is relevant in today’s times. I believe history never fades; it evolves, and I would love to argue that this investigation conducted is still prevalent today. Suppose the audience walked away with having learned more about the history of this subject in Eugene and reflecting on how it connects to Eugene today, as well as ways they believe they can help this issue. In that case, I think it would be beneficial.

Intended Audiences

The best-intended audience for this project would be young people in the Eugene and Oregon area, specifically students. Having educated myself on this story and gone through this process, I find it truly fascinating to learn more about Eugene and my home state. As well as being a young student, I am aware that many other young students are typically uninterested in learning the history of a place they live that is not mainstream news. Additionally, living in a digital era, most young people would not enjoy reading archive photos to be educated on this subject. However, I think young students in this area must become aware. Young students today are the future of change. Therefore in being educated on this subject early on, there may be more traction so that other audience groups become aware of this story and its implications. Essentially, having the leading audience group be young students could help the growth and involvement of this project and idea.

Medium and Format

The primary form of this project will be a podcast, then followed up by social media. This medium will be similar to the podcast we examined in class, ‘ Nice White Parents’ produced by the New York Times. I think podcasts today are a popular way to share information. It seems as though many people spend their day multitasking. Therefore, listening to a podcast while they go about their lives would be a great way to incorporate this information into many people’s lives. I think this is true because it requires little effort, although one can still engage.
In my personal experience, I think the pest podcasts have other forms in advertising them. Specifically, having social media accounts to gain a higher level of engagement would be beneficial. The use of social media would also help engage the target audience, which is young students. In addition, I think the social media accounts could visually display additional resources and information on social media.
Essentially the podcast could be a great resource to give history and provide a story on this subject. Then social media accounts would help with additional resources and offer a visual element to this project. Both platforms would allow for a larger audience to engage with this subject.

Materials Used

Our class and the Beyond Toxics group gathered many materials incorporated into this project. However, I think it is essential to demonstrate the archives of this subject. Therefore the investigation pages collected by the League of Women Voters Letter should be a priority resource. Within this investigation, specific numerical data pertaining to this subject. An example of this data is the employment rates in Eugene in the 1950s. Specifically, this investigation reports that there were twenty-two men and eight women employed and nineteen men and eleven women unemployed as adult African American community members. Similar data references and quotes should be implemented in the podcast and highlighted on social media accounts within this specific archive.

Tools or Technologies Used

To fully execute this project, there may need to be further assistance in the technical area. Firstly, this archive would have to be scripted in order to be a podcast. Therefore someone would have to copy the archive photos and turn them into digital text. Then this text would have to be sorted to create a fascinating storyline. Secondly, there would need to be enough resources and funds to produce a podcast. Essentially this would require the funds to obtain the technical equipment to produce a podcast. Thirdly, the social media accounts would need to be managed and set up professionally. The social media aspect would need to be constantly tended to succeed. In general, people may need to become educated in these areas to complete this project correctly.
