Lloyd District – Urban Design Studio – University of Oregon
Lloyd District Urban Design Studio
University of Oregon
Spring 2022
Prof. Nico Larco and Adj. Prof. Gauri Rajbadaiya
Working with the City of Portland Bureau of Sustainability and Urban Renaissance Group, the Urban Design Studio at the University of Oregon focused on future visions for the Lloyd District in Spring 2022. Under the leadership of Prof. Nico Larco, AIA and Adjunct Prof. Gauri Rajbaidya (SERA), the studio worked with multiple city departments, community stakeholders, various design firms, developers, and landowners from the Lloyd District to address the current challenges and future opportunities of the eastern part of the district. Among various topics, student proposals investigated opportunities for the redevelopment of the Lloyd Center Mall, a range of potential new programs for the area, the re-connection of the area to surrounding neighborhoods, and sustainable and equitable urban design strategies. This work was completed in early June 2022 and was presented later that month to the Urban Design Panel, a joint program of Oregon AIA (OregonAIA), the Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association (OAPA), and the Oregon Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLAOregon).
