NMCC Save the Dates for 2019!

The NMCC is excited to announce the speakers for our annual Lecture Series and our Tech Talk Series

Mike Ananny, author of author of Networked Press Freedom: Creating Infrastructures for a Public Right to Hear (MIT PRESS 2018), will deliver our annual lecture on Friday, February 8th, 2019. He is an Associate Professor of Journalism and Communication at USC and is currently a fellow at Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. He will speak about his recent work blending together free speech, media ethics, and issues of the ethics of algorithms and other technological systems.


Jake Metcalf, co-founder of the Silicon Valley consulting firm Ethical Resolve, will deliver this year’s Tech Talk on Thursday, April 25, 2019. He has a PhD in Philosophy from UC Santa Cruz and is currently a Research Associate at Data & Society. The talk will focus on how we can address the ethics of AI and he’ll also discuss his experiences in developing a humanities PhD into work in the tech industry.
