Book Talk: Salmon Is Everything: Community-based Theatre in the Klamath Watershed, Second Edition, (Oregon State University Press, 2018), with Theresa May, and contributors, Marta Lu Clifford, Kirby Brown and (quite possibly) others.

From OSU Press:  After a devastating fish kill on the Klamath River, tribal members [Karuk, Hupa, Yurok and Klamath/Modoc] and theatre artist Theresa May developed a play to give voice to the central spiritual and cultural role of salmon in tribal life.  Salmon Is Everything presents the script, along with essays by artists and collaborators that illuminate the process of creating and performing theatre on Native and environmental issues.  Originally published in 2014, the revised and expanded second edition includes a new introduction by Theresa May and new chapters by Kirby Brown and Marta Lu Clifford.

Theresa will discuss the values of community-engaged theater practice that guided the development of the play, as well as how the book and its formation reflect indigenous methodologies in both its structure and ideas. Contributors will also speak about their respective chapters, “Becoming Rose,” by Marta Lu Clifford, and “Story, Sovereignty, Relation and Place,” by Kirby Brown.
