2019 University of Oregon NASU Mothers Day Powwow

Celebrate mom at the 51st Annual University of Oregon NASU Mothers Day Powwow on May 10-11, 2019 at the Erb Memorial Union lawn in Eugene, Oregon. It’s all in the title: The University of Oregon NASU Mothers Day Powwow is hosted by the UO Native American Student Union, and features everything that a traditional powwow does — feasting, dancing, singing and celebration. The powwow will offer more than $7,000 in prize money to be awarded in 14 dance categories. Not only are students and their families invited, but the citywide community also is encouraged to attend, free of cost.

University of Oregon NASU Mothers Day Powwow

The University of Oregon NASU Mothers Day Powwow weekend will begin on the ERB lawn on Friday with the 7:00 pm formal Grand Entry — a full-dress, ceremonial event that includes dancing, drumming, color guards and tribal elders. The evening, complete with friendly competitions and music performances, will last until 11 p.m.

On Saturday, another grand entry will be made into the arena at noon, followed by dance competitions, drum exhibitions and singing performances until 5 p.m., when dinner will be served. When the plates are cleared, a final grand entry into will occur at 7 p.m. with singing and dancing recommencing until 11 p.m.

Throughout the weekend, powwow-goers will also have the opportunity shop from Native vendors setup around the dance arena.

All events are free and open to the public.
