In this talk, Professor Brian Klopotek will discuss his experiences teaching on a Fulbright fellowship at Universidad de las Americas-Puebla (UDLAP) from January to June 2018. In the school year, he taught two classes in English to regular UDLAP students—one on Natives and cinema and one on Native North American anthropology. In those classes, none of the students considered themselves Indigenous.  After the school year, he participated in the Programa de Liderazgo para Jóvenes Indígenas (Indigenous Youth Leadership Program), teaching a course on Native environmentalism in Spanish with exclusively Indigenous college students from other universities in Mexico.  This talk will sort through areas of convergence and divergence, as well as future directions for hemispheric Indigenous studies and collaborations.
