Manny Cano: Fall 2020 Comic Book Showcase

Introduction

My comic book is about environmental issues that will occur if we do not take precautions. The comic book addresses issues like water and air pollution that will occur in the future. My comic book follows two teens and a companion who embark in a journey to save the earth using the philosopher’s stone. One thing I incorporated into my comic book that I learned from English 280 is dialogue between characters. I initially was only going to have narrative dialogue but i remembered that Professor Saunders said that dialogue between characters helps the story move forward and has a better connection to the viewers. This can be seen in the comic book shown in class titled “Sabrina” by Nick Drnaso. Another concept I included in my comic book that I learned from Art 101 was how to fully connect with the audience. For this comic book i was aiming for a teen audience as they are the future and what they decide to do will affect all of us. A perfect example of where an artist knew his audience and knew how to address them is in the artwork titled “Becoming an Image” by Heather Cassils.

  1. Dear Manny, I so enjoyed seeing your finished FIG comic project, and hearing more about what you found useful in both Art 101 and English 280! I hope you keep producing creative work and following your passion for environmental justice.
    Warmly, Sonja
