Introduction
My comic book is about my mother’s native side and how we had to hide our identity to live and the consequences of that. It starts with the burning of family files in protection of my grandmother so the police couldn’t prove we were native, but it also started to detach ourselves from our culture and begins imposter syndrome. I hope the reader will take away the damages of history but also that you can let yourself accept parts of yourself even if you don’t fit certain standards or look like your family. In English 280 it was led with techniques which I used McCloud’s technique of moment to moment in the last mirror scene and action to action for most of the comic like the braiding scene. Another technique is Charles Hatfield’s text as experience vs. text as an object with the gutter being the color of old paper that I believe would have been the file color to give a sense of a visual version of what the names represent and their stories.
