Stress

Stress ThoughtI felt stress was a good thought to add especially when paired with worry as they can feel very different for each person but the brain functioning is quite similar. Not to mention there is probably not a single person on Earth who hasn’t felt the pressure of stress in their lives at least one, especially on a college campus.

Research:
The brain deals with stress in much the same way it deals with worry with one exception, high amounts of stress can lead to reduced social interaction. In a recent study it was found that the effects of stress on social behavior depended on the timing of the stress in the person’s life, the duration of the stress they were exposed to and the type of stress that caused the reaction. A common response to high levels of persistent stress is to withdraw from social groups and show aggression towards others. Good social interactions can actually protect the brain from the adverse effects of stress. The study also showed differences in the response to stress was mainly caused by slight differences in the person’s genetic code rather than brain activity (Sandi, Haller, 2015).

Design:
I wanted the design for stress to look stressful and chaotic like someone mad just scribbled into the mind and it had been contained in the thought somehow. The color was also important as I wanted it to look chaotic and stressful but not panic inducing, this is why I chose to use green instead of bright red or neon orange. I wanted to suggest a panicked frenzy but not actually create one.
