Empire Theatre (Medford)

Empire Theatre

(Previously known as the IT Theatre and the U-Go Theatre)

August 16, 1915-September 1915

126 W Main St, Medford, Oregon

Manager: E.G. Kay

Programming notes:

Rather than extensive advertisements disguised as newspaper articles, the Empire published their programs with short, one-phrase descriptions to pique the community’s interest.

Promotional strategies notes:

The Empire Theatre often took out double-wide advertisement spaces within the Medford Mail Tribune, notably dividing them into two ads in which they were able to include the theatre’s name twice in bold for maximum exposure.

Because of the extremely short life of this theatre, there is very little variation in the appearance and content of the advertisements placed in newspapers. The theatre was open for about a month and followed a straightforward template for their advertisements, as shown below.

Sample news clips, advertisements:

The Empire Theatre often appeared in back-to-back double-section advertisements in the Medford Medford Mail Tribune, as shown in this August 14, 1915 edition.
Another example of a program advertisement with concise picture descriptions, as seen in the August 23, 1915 edition of the Medford Mail Tribune.
