Learning Goals Reflection

I outlined 6 learning goals at the beginning of this term not really understanding even what the idea of Marketing, Media and Communication is all about.  I was coming into the class with very little knowledge of how to use the computer outside of the Medical world.  I realize, looking back over the goals, how I just wanted to get more comfortable with using the computer and was open to learning the concepts outlined in this class.  The goals I outlined include:

  • To become proficient at getting around the computer.
  • To learn how to use media and create posts.
  • To learn how to create designs/logos with computer.
  • To learn how to upload/download information.
  • Become proficient with technology.
  • To learn how to problem solve around technology.

I feel that I have become more proficient at getting around the computer.  When I started, I was totally overwhelmed by all the different avenues to access information.  Even the ideas of learning graphic design and the language was overwhelming.  I feel that I have just tapped the surface.  I am about 15% more proficient then I was at the beginning.  For me, having the language is a big part of this learning and understanding what the world of marketing, media and communication begins to be about.

Learning about these concepts helped to change my anxiety of not understanding to slowly gaining insight to this new terminology and skill.  The class moved quickly but slow enough for me to grasp the basic concepts for understanding marketing, media and communication.   I found the research I did on an organization, learning about branding and logos, and even learning how to use Adobe, helped to create this understanding.  By synthesizing all the pieces within our final project started to bring clarity to this whole concept.

I do feel more comfortable about getting around the computer, uploading and downloading information, exporting, pasting or placing information.  There is still so much I need to learn and I only feel that I have scratched the surface in all that can be done using the Adobe programs and even to learn about other programs that are available to achieve the skills for graphic design.

I feel that becoming proficient with technology is a life long skill.  It is always changing. Just when I grasp the understanding and concept for how to use one program or aspect of the computer, it seems to change.  I am still not very comfortable trying to figure out or problem solve on my own when I need to change something in a program or even how/where to get around the computer.  I am amazed that I have learned as much as I have over the course of this term.  With as much as I have learned, it is humbling to be aware that there is still so much I don’t know.
