My Super Power

Flying from Creative Action on Vimeo.

I always struggling with my title in the piece I made, like how long for my title, how should I pick my font? A good title can attract more audience. I search “flying school” in Vimeo and I hope I can find some videos to learn (For my photo project). But, for some reasons I don’t know, “Flying” came out and it was nothing but flying school.

On the beginning of the story (00:14), when the young character said:”…School like death,” she got my attention. “Something you don’t think matters that would kill someone.” These quotes are very powerful but not matching with her age. Death, killing, matters, why these words appear in a teenager’s life? I feel that’s an interesting way to build a story intro. Young teenager, gossip and secret crush, all these whisper action and reaction moments catch well by the film crew(00:46). And then they use graphic match cuts and jump into the next one(01:06), young character was chatting with her friend. Laughing, smiling, you can tell how happy they are! And then, the piano music! Piano is such a dramatic music, and our professor told us we need to think harder if we want to use it. For this piece, piano music help audience follow the storyline and drag them into that moment(01:13). I enjoy the color! It looks like some films in 60s or 70s.

This piece tell us a story about how a young girl handle her father died from suicide, how her life changed by her father. Her school life, her friendship and her boyfriend are all affected by her family issue. We always think kids are kids, they know nothing. That’s not true. They can totally feel the pain and even worse. People asked her what’s her superpower? She said she wants to fly, but in the end she said she was not a kid anymore. I think this quote is the best answer to describe her lost.
