  1. SlowMo Beauty-WeekWhatever

This is not an official weekly post, and there’s not a ton to say about it. I just thought this video was really beautiful and wanted to share it. It has a great message shown in a simple but stunning way. The colors are amazing, I love the brightly colored balloons that explode into a different but equally lovely colored liquid. The lighting, with the subject being completely isolated against a black background, really accentuate the colors and keep our focus on the subject. Brilliant. Oh the possibilities…

Oh, and this one is ridiculously beautiful too.

  2. Slow Mo Magic!

    February 12, 2014 by kblack7@uoregon.edu

After our discussion about the high speed cameras, I found this commercial and I was pretty much rendered speechless. This is AMAZING! Don’t get me wrong, this took a lot of work, a huge crew, a composer to create the perfect sound design, but I thought it was a killer idea of some creative things we could do (or at least try) with the FS 700 camera at our disposal.

Created as a commercial for Schwartz Flavour Shots, this slow-motion video dubbed “The Sound of Taste” is an amazing combination of cinematography and pyrotechnics that has been combined to create what filmmaker Chris Cairns calls “an audiovisual feast.” Couldn’t have said it better myself! The filmmakers said in this article that they were trying to emulate what the experience of tasting different flavors would physically look like. I also found that the behind-the-scenes video of the production was really interesting and helped me wrap my head around how they were able to pull this off. Seems like they did a lot of work to get it just right, but it definitely paid off! This is one of the most creative commercials I have seen in a long time!

Also another amazing slow-motion video I found. This type of video seems to be a little more in our ability to create….

  3. Eckerson Week 4: Slow Motion for Ya

    January 30, 2014 by amandae@uoregon.edu

“The Sound of Taste” is a slow motion video that incorporates some of the ideas we learned while learning about the slow mo camera last week.  The cameras shows three different elements of using the power of slow motion. First, it depicts a medium shot of multiple colors of spices exploding, which focuses attention on the explosion itself, note the bags in particular.  Second, there are some great air shots of the spices interacting. I particularly enjoyed the small bits of clove that are perfectly in focus, which I wonder how they were able to do considering all the other elements in the air at the same time.  I also particularly love how the visuals are linked to sound, which emphasizes the dynamism of the slow mo.

  4. Dogs Shaking in Slow Motion (ACE 1)

    October 30, 2013 by amandae@uoregon.edu

Today’s a slow week.  This inspires me to think about all the minutia involved in any action, and how the naked eye  simply doesn’t see it.  In a sense, this is a reason to take up a camera, to document the fascinating and inane nature of life at a different speed. Also: who knew??? I guess film can actually teach us while entertaining.

In terms of set up, I like how they’ve got the pooches in a controlled environment, almost interview style, to mitigate any interference and focus on the important elements. Namely, exactly what happens when a dog shakes? 🙂
