“Covering #MeToo from a solutions angle helps the reader understand that there are initiatives taken all over the place to improve the situation. Whether  those methods work or not is the reader’s decision to make, but our job is to guide them to the faces who are marking every effort to fix or prevent the damage. Reporting it from a solutions angle helps to communicate that change is happening. That’s the first step to solving a problem.”

Theresa Wanner recently completed an internship at Ashinaga, a non-profit organization based in Tokyo that provides educational funding and psychological support to students who have lost one or both of their parents. As a communications/media assistant and translator, Wanner helped organize international programs, translated journals and wrote articles for the organization’s website.

Wanner also worked as a news reporter for the Daily Emerald, a student-run newspaper at the University of Oregon, covering stories on the American English Institute on campus.

Wanner will graduate from the UO School of Journalism and Communication with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in June 2019.
