“Covering #MeToo from a solutions angle is important for a number of reasons. The news media frames the way the audience interacts with a subject — no matter the story or the issue discussed. Applying this idea to social movements like #MeToo is imperative for making an impact. It’s our job to tell the stories of what works and, more importantly, why it works.”

Hannah Kanik is a news reporter at the Daily Emerald, where she covers the administration and construction news at the University of Oregon. She is responsible for writing weekly stories relevant to students as well as breaking news stories.

Kanik previously had an internship with Southwark News in London, where she was responsible for writing news and lifestyle stories. Kanik covered local breaking news and actively found stories in a community that was foreign to her.

Kanik also interned with Gold Country Media in Auburn, California, where she had stories published in the Auburn Journal, the Lincoln News Messenger, The Loomis News, The Roseville Press Tribune and the Foothills Magazine.

Kanik will graduate from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a minor in political science in June 2020.
