“With such a weighty topic that can often seem bleak, focusing on solutions journalism and what is being done to address the problem enables journalists to add to the public discourse in a constructive way. In addition to increasing awareness of the issue, I hope we were able to cover the topic in a way that will benefit potential decision and change-makers. I also hope we did justice to the topic and fairly represented the experiences of those directly affected by and involved with this issue.”

Aubrey Bulkeley is pursuing a master’s degree in Journalism at the University of Oregon. She created and produced the inaugural podcast and wrote a long-form story about women in STEM for FLUX Magazine, a UO publication which won a 2018 Magazine Pacemaker Award and a 2019 Gold Crown Award.

Bulkeley is a Crossings Institute Graduate Research Fellow and a general assignment reporter at KLCC, Eugene’s NPR affiliate.

Prior to journalism, she spent seven years as an international educator in Germany, Peru and South Korea and has traveled to 38 countries, thus far.

Bulkeley’s time overseas gave her additional lenses through which to view the world. She desires to use journalism to explore nuances in complex topics and hopes her stories will help people from different perspectives to find shared commonalities.
