This timeline shows the growth of Eugene since it was founded. Eugene, OR was founded upon a tribe and cabin in 1846 by Eugene Franklin Skinner. The cabin served as a post office four years later. The University of Oregon was founded only 30 years later in 1876. The town is widely known for its heavy rains. Even though nowadays there is the popular saying during University of Oregon football games (“It never rains in Autzen!”) there is a high possibility that it will in fact rain.
