Please welcome our two guest speakers: Dr. Junkins and Dr. Kao! Both doctors will be joining us in the evening to discuss their path to being a pediatrician and their life and career now. The zoom link and meeting ID is below. Here is more on Dr. Junkins and Dr. Kao:
Edward P. Junkins, Jr. MD, MPH
Dr. Junkins serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Assessment and Outcomes at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his fellowship training and Masters of Public Health from the University of Utah School of Medicine, his internship and residency training at the John Hopkins Hospital Children’s Center, his Medical Degree from John Hopkins School of Medicine, and his Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame. Besides his expertise in pediatrics, emergency medicine, and public health sciences, Dr. Junkins has focused his academic activities on healthcare curriculum development and assessment, inter-professional education team-building, and professional development.
Dr. Jaylynn Kao, MD
Dr. Kao is a pediatrician, a transplanted Midwestern girl now in the PNW. She was born, raised, and schooled in Iowa and Wisconsin, where she received her Medical Degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Kao then did her Pediatrics and chief residency in Cincinnati, Ohio. After her time in Ohio and Wisconsin, Dr. Kao made her way to Eugene, Oregon in 2007. Dr. Kao emphasizes students having fun in medical school, residency, and truly enjoying the journey!

Guest Speakers: Dr. Lohrman and Dr. Lin
Our guest speakers for the evening are Dr. Jessica Lohrman from the Darren W. Johnson (DWJ) Lab and Dr. Angela Lin from the Guldberg Lab! The DWJ lab explores problems in chemistry and organic chemistry, while the Guldberg lab’s specialty is in musculoskeletal tissue regeneration. Dr. Lohrman will be taking us on a virtual tour through the Knight Campus at the University of Oregon, and we will be hearing more about research from Dr. Lin. We are excited to see the new Knight Campus here at the UO, and to meet and hear from both Dr. Lohrman and Dr. Lin!

We had a great time with Amber Owens, a licensed practical nurse (LPN), who walked us through the nursing field, basics, and process and additionally answered any questions we had. Thank you Amber, we really appreciate you and your enthusiasm!

Following the MAP IT OUT Program Introduction, we jumped into hearing about the backgrounds and current work of our guest speakers. Dr. Tsikitis, Dr. Gomez and Dr. McCully were all extremely supportive and inspiring, we can’t thank you enough for being our guests for the evening! 🙂
