Hello!
My name is Macy Patel (she/her) and I just finished my sophomore year at the University of Oregon! My major is Environmental Studies and I have minors in Biology and Planning, Public Policy, and Management (PPPM)! I currently live in Eugene, Oregon, but am originally from the Bay Area. At UO, I work as a biology peer tutor and in an ecology lab as an undergraduate assistant. I love plants, soil, and the environment! When I am not on campus or in the lab, I enjoy spending time with my friends, going outside, cooking and baking, and watching Dodgers baseball!
This summer I will be spending a month abroad in Denmark (Copenhagen, Svendborg, Korinth, Odense) and Netherlands (Nijmegen, Utrecht, and Amsterdam)! I will be joining a group of about 17 students, 2 professors, and various professionals in the PPPM field to learn about sustainability and bicycle infrastructure in these European countries. As a group we will be participating in group activities, meeting with public officials, observing bicycle design and culture, and more!
The goal of this course is to understand the role of bicycling in urban transportation, learn about the policy and planning behind transportation choices, gather information on design, safety, and legal issues with bicycle planning, and understand integration of bicycle transportation in communities.
Join me as I travel through these two countries, learn about transportation, and explore! I will be updating this blog as a part of my assignments for the study abroad program and just for fun!
Yours,
Macy
