They Hope for Their Grandson to Become a Duck, Too

Mariko says, “Bebe and I first met at (McMenamins) North Bank Restaurant and Bar through our common UO friends.  North Bank remained a sentimental place for us and we had memorable Valentine’s Day celebrations returning there to dine by the Willamette River.

We were very happy to make a return visit to the UO in 2019. It was a pleasant surprise to see our names on the contribution board at the Mills International Center in EMU. What a nice display! We thank you and feel very honored.”

The photos shared here are of Bebe and Mariko by the Willamette River in 1989 and their 1987 wedding photo alongside a photo from their 2019 visit to campus.

Mariko and Bebe have just celebrated 33rd wedding anniversary. Mariko says, ” UO and Eugene, Oregon mean so much to both of us. We feel so happy and blessed that we studied at UO and met each other. We have lots of precious memories. Eugene is our second home. Now Bebe is already talking about which university his grandson (just 6 years old) should go to. Of course, it is the UO – Go Ducks! Could it b that he is hoping to live in Eugene with his grandson?”
