When you know it must be fate

Win Min and Priscilla Dantas both were able to attend college against all odds by earning substantial scholarships to attend the University of Oregon.

Win’s impressive public service in his home village in Myanmar earned him the highly competitive International Cultural Service Program Scholarship. In 2016, Win was included in the UOAA and Emerald Media’s annual list of “25 Ducks Who Will Change the World” (see more about Win’s incredible journey here).

For Priscilla, it was her piano performance skills that would take her from her home in Northeast Brazil to international recitals and finally to the UO when she was also offered the International Cultural Service Program Scholarship, as well as the Ruth Lorraine Close Scholarship, and funds and support from Students Helping Street Kids International (see more about Priscilla’s amazing path t the UO here).

They met at the UO while taking part in the International Cultural Service Program. They got married in Eugene and their son got Alexander Min-Almeida was born in Eugene as well (see photo)!

They now both live in Myanmar, where Priscilla is a piano instructor and Win is a Programme Manager at Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business (MCRB). MCRB is a joint initiative between the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Institute for Human Rights and Business, a leading international think tank on business and human rights.

When asked how they are doing in the midst of the current political struggle in Myanmar, Win says, “We both are more optimistic people amidst all these circumstances, Looking at things on the brighter side and having the mind and heart to be a part of the process of building a community – we both have that kind of spirit within us.”
