Noor Sofjan, BS ’88 (Indonesia) and Rony Soerakoesoemah, BS ’88 (Indonesia)

One thing leads to another!

Noor and Rony met in Eugene through a fellow Duck at a Fixx concert in Mac Court (remember when Mac Court was the place for these big events?).

They enjoyed hanging around the fishbowl, lunched at China Blue (unfortunately long since closed), and studied at Knight library during their time at the UO. Rony remembers with a smile their first Valentine’s date at the Oregon Electric Station. “I picked up Noor at her apartment on Hilyard in a 1970 Datsun that I borrowed from a grad student.” It was a memorable occasion despite problems with the car; it stalled and Noor had to help push while Rony got it restarted from second gear.

They got to know each other during games at Autzen  Stadium while soaking up the great atmosphere, even though the Ducks were in the early stages back then. Noor remembers the romantic drives they would take together to the coast. “We would listen to our fav song “Don’t want to lose you” by Gloria Estefan.”, Noor recalls. “During weekends or when the days were just too nice to stay in Deady Hall, we would take road trips to the majestic Cascades.”

Happily married with two kids, they look forward to a family trip to Eugene – to where it all began!

Listen to their songs

Rony and Noor share that their wedding dance was to the song Don’t Wanna Lose You by Gloria Estefan was a favorite during their drives to the coast. They met at a concert by the Fixx, who are best known for the hit song, One Thing Leads to Another. You can hear these songs, along with others shared by our international alumni couples on our Spotify playlist – simply click below to listen!
