Listen to their songs

Marianne shares that  Randy Newman, B.B. King, The Beach Boys, Phoebe Snow, and Taj Mahal are just a few of the artists she and Tor enjoyed during their years at the UO and later as they all performed in concerts at the UO during  their studies.

You can hear these artists, along with other music shared by our international alumni couples, on our Spotify playlist – simply click below to listen!

Coming to the UO as a couple and getting married afterward

The following is shared by Marianne:
“Our story may be a bit different from other UO couples. We arrived together in Eugene in the Summer of ‘77 to gain international degrees building on our degrees from Norway. As a young couple, we settled in our first apartment on Ferry street and joined the Lundquist College of Business. Two years later, We finished our Masters’s degrees and returned to Norway, where we got married and settled in with careers and a house. A few years later, we started our family.
In 1994, we brought our three children to Eugene and in 2015  the two of us returned once again to enjoy the campus, Taylor’s hamburgers, and the Saturday Market (our attached photo is from that trip). We stayed at the hotel Excelsior we revisited memories of our happy student days from ‘77-‘79. It was a period which, in many ways, has formed us as a couple and kept us together with a shared and profound experience.
I don’t recall Valentine’s celebrations specifically, but I fondly remember traveling together in our Ford Pinto to visit lots of places in Oregon and on the west coast whenever we had a break from our studies. We enjoyed concerts, athletics competitions,  basketball and football games with our fellow students whenever we could.
In a year we will reach retirement age. We are still married and we still enjoy contact with our fellow UO students from the US and other countries, as well as other Norwegian UO students and alumni.”
