From dorm buddies to life partners
Shannon shares, “We met when we were living in Robbins dorm on campus. Olivier is from Aspen Colorado and I am from Alberta Canada. We met during a dorm meeting. When he heard I was from Canada, he mentioned that his best friend was from Canada – and we hit it off! I remember being attracted to him because he had great hair, everyone really liked him, and he had a very interesting name.”
When asked if she remembers celebrating Valentine’s Day with Olivier in Eugene, she says, “We married in 1992 and met in 1986, so it’s hard to remember our Valentines. However, I do think we had one Valentines eating at the Excelsior Inn Ristorante. He forgot his wallet while we were eating and had to run back to the dorm to get it so we could pay. I had to sit there waiting for him to come back!”
What keeps their relationship going strong? Shannon says, “We still get along so well because we have so much in common and yet have our own hobbies and interests and give each other the space to pursue them.”
