Dance faculty at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance will present their newest work “Bruit” this weekend in Dougherty Dance Theatre, Gerlinger Annex. Although everyone is busy practicing and preparing for the new show, Shannon Mockli gave Liner Notes a few minutes of her time to talk about this original work.
Liner Notes (LN): Can you tell us a little bit about the process of choreographing the material that would become “Bruit”?
Shannon Mockli (SM): The interesting thing about Bruit, is that I choreographed movement for the individually danced pieces within it, but I perceive that as only one element within this concert that includes voice-over narratives, improvisation, music, dance, a tango lesson, and digital imaging. My challenge for this project has been integrating these elements into a more or less cohesive evening.
