I try to understand how hard it was for my father to migrate from this village in western corner of one of the poorest province to the biggest city of Yunnan. I try so hard to understand how hard it was for my parents to find jobs and get our residencies in that biggest city. And now, they are pushing me to study in the West. My father was the first one in our village who moved to Kunming and had a decent job. You have no idea how hard it is for Chinese from poor villages to seek opportunities in major cities.
Every time when I see the second picture, I remember my father spent a good amount of time observing our village and I believe, there were a lot going on in his mind.
I want to keep the values my family has and try my best to achieve something here, at the UO. And as a single child, I am the first one in our village and town, who have the opportunity to explore the West and pursue a college degree from the US.
I won’t let my parents down. I won’t let my family down. I won’t let my village down.
