March 2024: Niche Narratives: Exploring History and Technology through Collaborative Zines

Opening Reception

Wednesday, March 6 2pm PT in Knight 121A

The artist will be present. Coffee and food stuffs provided.

About the Work

“These zines are a collaboration between my friend, Audra McNamee, who is an artist and freelance cartoonist, and myself. We tend to focus on niche history and technology, but generally use the zines to research and write about whatever we’re most excited about. We’ve covered topics such as the history of Jell-O and gelatin, the Uncle Sam billboard on I-5, and our distaste for Amazon-owned Audible.

Working on this project collaboratively has been a wonderful experience. In theory, I research and do most of the writing, while Audra lays out and draws the zines. However, in practice, those lines are quite blurred, and the writing especially is a very collaborative process.” – Allia Service
