The annual GE Day of Teaching will be Wednesday, September 23, 2020.  This opportunity will help new GEs access high-quality teacher training and invite you into a vibrant and supported UO teaching community. You will work with TEP  to learn inclusive, engaged, and research-led teaching practices so they can begin their UO teaching careers with confidence.

Both new and returning GEs might appreciate the Technology Essentials and Teaching Insights Forum sessions given the particular demands of our teaching context this fall.

This year’s Day of Teaching will be remote and facilitated live via Zoom.  All sessions will be recorded and made available. The schedule and Zoom links are as follows:

  • First, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., TEP will facilitate a Teaching as the Sole Instructor session aimed for graduate students who will be teaching or co-teaching their first course as instructor of record in 2020-2021. This session will engage participants in hands-on course design that will help them align course learning objectives, assignments, and student engagement activities, and provide a variety of strategies for building class community, facilitating interactive class sessions, and streamlining grading and feedback. The session will include an overview of essential technology tools needed for remote instruction, including Canvas and Zoom.
  • Then, from 1-2:45 p.m., TEP will facilitate sessions on Leading Discussion Sections or Leading Labs for graduate students who will have section or lab GE assignments in 2020-2021. Participants will meet in smaller Zoom sessions learn strategies to get to know students, establish clear classroom expectations, organize activities for rich discussions or productive labs, and grade more efficiently while providing meaningful feedback.
  • Next, from 3-4 p.m., TEP and colleagues from UO Online and Information Services will host a Remote and Online Teaching Technology Essentials session for ALL graduate students. Focus will include key Canvas features such as the Gradebook, SpeedGrader, Discussions, and Groups, and Zoom tools and tips, including Breakout Rooms, Chat and Polling.
  • Finally, from 4-5 p.m., TEP will host a Teaching Insights Forum for that features strategies for remote and online contexts, coordination of teaching teams, and teaching in turbulent times.

Register for the GE Day of Teaching.

Departments are also welcome to contact TEP directly at tep@uoregon.edu to reserve spaces for your graduate students or to let us know that your students will participate in a department-led training instead of this event (we can help make sure they get to the right place!)
