When I think of my personal learning environment, I think it keeps changing with the different stage of my learning life. I’d like to separate them into three parts: Learning in China; Working and learning during work; Studying abroad.

Learning in China: The educational system in China is exam-oriented which is totally different from here. Although it is stressful for students, it offers a pretty fair opportunity to everyone who want to get a better education. In the center of my PLE in China, I put a trencher cap which is the goal almost every child has since he/she was very young, me too, surrounding are the ways I learned. Most of the time, I learned from teachers and books in school as a kid, and some after-school classes. Besides this, I like to play piano and singing, that are also the most part of my undergraduate life, spending whole day stay in piano room or in library.

Working and learning in museum: This stage was meaningful to me. I put the Museum in the center where I spent most time in. Through the collections in museum, I get to know the stories of them and convey them to the visitors, then get the feedback from visitors as a way to improve my knowledge system, this becomes a feedback loop, at the same time, it is a normal learning way during my working time. Besides, as I travel to other places with my cohorts or alone, I also go to the museum to see the history of this area. I think learning is not only on the book, most of the time, life itself is the best way to learn.

Studying abroad: When I got America, I feel like I’m learning every minute, not only about my major, but also about the culture. In my PLE, I put the logo of University of Oregon in the middle as my main learning environment. As I got to know something about arts and administration, about marketing, about media communication, some of what is familiar to me, but some is not, I began to know more about a new field. I use Adobe to design my logo, sometimes I felt that when I was using this software to design, I put more focus on that than just read books. Most of time, dictionary and google map are the top 1 I use in my daily life which I think is a kind of learning.

In these parts, I put three common things: my laptop, my phone and WeChat which represent the social software I used most. These are things that related to technology, in today’s life, I can hardly learn without this smart equipment. WeChat is a software that created by a Chinese company, Tencent, and is one of the most widely using software in China. It can do everything on it, it can do text communication, video call, voice call, pay bill, shopping etc. I use it to communicate with my friends and family. I use laptop to do information collection and research job, use smartphone to communicate and navigation.
