What was your dream job when you were younger?
When I was younger, my dream job was to be a teacher. It’s random but it’s because my mom was a teacher and I feel like you always look up to what your mom does.
How has that dream changed from your dream now?
Now I want to be a stylist, so that has nothing to do with being a teacher. I want to be behind the scenes of photo-shoots. It’s a hard description of what that title is because I want to do more than one thing, but I would like to be the face of the company and work behind the scenes with fashion. I want to be the idea behind the shoot.
What inspired you to want to take that path?
I would say my mom. She was the one who taught me how to sow. We would create clothes together and come up with ideas, so she definitely started my path of creativity, but also through famous people like Rachel Zoe. I really like what she does, and watching The Hills when I was younger, seeing Lauren Conrad at her internship with Teen Vogue, that’s what really interested me.
I had a similar job in high school, working behind the scenes for a professional photographer, so that all built up to inspire me.
Can you tell me more about the job with the photographer?
I had the job in high school, and I was focusing mainly on senior photos. The seniors would come and bring a bunch of their own clothes, and I would piece through what they brought to make outfits for them, because certain things don’t look good in pictures.
We also had an office space with accessories, so if I liked a certain accessory, I would pick it out and bring it to the photo-shoot. Basically, the photographer would take pictures, and I would be the assistant, helping with shade, and making sure her hair looked good.
How do you plan on pursuing your dream in the long run?
Well…baby steps I guess. This summer, I am doing an internship with Mylo Jewelry and it’s a small company, so I think it will be a good experience to work hands-on with every employee. I have also been working for College Fashionista, where I write fashion blogs about college campus outfits. I go out and find people, take pictures, and basically write what’s trending. I feel like you kind of have to take steps to eventually get to your dream job.
