What was your dream job when you were younger?
Most kids know what they want to be when they grow up. They have dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or the president of the United States. But I never knew. My dream job was always changing.
How has that dream changed?
Even through High School my dream job would change yearly. Now, after my second year of college I have finally talked with enough people, learned about enough opportunities to have finally decided what I want to do. My dream now is to work for Disney Weddings as an event coordinator and after I fulfill that dream I want to be a preschool to Kindergarten teacher.
What inspired you to take this path?
Two years ago I got a job as a bridal consultant at Anna’s Bridal Boutique and I loved it. It really showed me how much I loved the wedding industry. I loved everyone’s happiness and joy and loved being a part of that.
How do you plan to pursue your dream?
I have already sent a resume and cover letter to Disney Weddings. Not necessarily applying yet but expressing my interest in a possible career after graduation. I have made some really wonderful connections with people who have worked in that industry and in the Disney Family and cannot wait to move forward with applying after graduation. As far as teaching goes, my plan is to come back to UO for the teaching masters program after I spend some time working for Disney.
What challenges have you faced while pursuing your dream?
Wanting to work for Disney has good and bad connotations. Although everyone I’m close to is extremely supportive, there are negative “Nancy’s” in the crowd who believe that I should be pursuing more “money making” goals and that I should try to work in something “not so girly.” There are always negative influences though and I have learned to follow my dreams to achieve my goals regardless of what other people think.
