AAD 630: Research Methods

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Through readings, lectures and activities, this course introduces a range of research methods useful to the field of arts administration. In this course, you will explore the language, process, and techniques of research while practicing skills including critical thinking, academic writing, sourcing and reviewing literature, key data collection techniques, identifying ethical concerns, and drafting a research concept proposal. Through this process, we will also explore the broader purposes of applied and scholarly cultural research.

This being an applied course, you will explore your research interests and methodological needs throughout. As the major assignment, students develop (and present) a preliminary proposal framework for their terminal research project that emphasizes methods. Each of you will be assigned a research supervisor following your presentations.  You will revise and refine the preliminary proposal developed in this course in the AAD 631 Research Design course (Fall 2016).
