AAD 617: Learning Goals Reflections

1.- Learn more about social media as a marketing tool and how to build a strong online presence for an organization

I definitely learned a lot about this through my individual marketing plan for the Shakespeare Tavern. Our guest speaker from the marketing consulting firm also provided a lot of insight on this. I was surprised to learn how quantitative social media can get.

2.- Apply my branding knowledge to a more comprehensive marketing plan

In discussing the group marketing plan for OSLP’s  Arts and Culture Program, there was a lot of conversation about building a singular, consistent brand for them. This definitely carried over a lot of the branding skills from first term. I wish we had had the opportunity to work on this redesign.

3.- Gain a better understanding of various analytics tools (i.e. AdWorks)

Surprisingly, it sounded like these kinds of tools have gotten a bit outdated and the focus is now is more on social media quantifiers (likes, followers, shares, etc.). This was surprising but helpful information and I wonder what this means for future marketing as technology continues to evolve.

4.- Work on web design skills

I did not get to try my hand at web design, but I did get to do some investigation into web-building platforms for my individual marketing plan. This is definitely something I would like to explore more, even for my own personal use.

5.-  Refamiliarize myself with the Shakespeare Tavern

I had a blast updating my case study from marketing i! Most fun was to see that the Tavern got an Instagram last December, shortly after I made the suggestion in my initial research. Lovely coincidence! Also, being across the country now I have not done as good a job at keeping up with their programming as I would like so it was great seeing what they’ve been up to.
