Unit 9: Remixing Culture

Unit 9 Objectives:

  • Become acquainted with copyright as a historic, cultural and economic paradigm and its value and pertinence to creative works
  • Explore the changing nature of copyright in the context of “Remix Culture” and the “Fifth World”
  • Examine their own and others values and paradigms of ownership and authorship of cultural media.
  • Evaluate the meanings of real fake and examine their intersection with personal and cultural identity and authenticity

1 example piece of work:

1 reflection on the piece of work:

This was a tough topic to discuss actually. On one hand, I felt that people should make art with their hands, original. But after the reading and discussions I feel that I it just a different type of skill with art. Some people are good at rearranging already made things to create something new. It is however a difficult topic because of copyrighting. People should be accredited for if they were the original creator of a work. This is not the case now a days because like the google image search project, many people just google something and use it an not accrediting them. The hard part is that for example an image can be distributed all over the internet. You can google it and not have a clue who made the image or took it.

Future Goals:

I hope that in the future I will be more aware at the information that I see online and me more considerate about using information or photos or videos. I will cite things when I can or possibly find something until I am able to cite something.
