1 example piece of work:
1 reflection on the piece of work:
After watching the TED talk with Jane McGonigal I was able to see the influence of video games and how many people are with video games. She goes on to explain how strong people feel towards their games, how much time they spend on games, and the things that they do on games such as World of Warcraft. The roles that people take in these games help with their self confidence like when they have to lead a group into battle or something. She expresses how she believes that technology (video games) can help our future and help people deal with real life problems. Help our culture and change it. I had a very hard time agreeing with her argument as she didn’t really state a solution until the very end. The issue is that the games she created herself would help people solve real world problems because that is what her games were designed for. (like the oil shortage game) BUT this would not be the same case for people that played other games like World of Warcraft. I feel that the talk was not as secure as she meant it to be.
The validity of art created with the aid or machines was discussed in my discussion. I am going to school as a digital arts major so it in tails using technology to make art. Technology is just another medium used to make art basically. I will be doing digital drawing and other stuff using technology. It is just like using a paintbrush or pencil, instead it is the click of a mouse.
Future Goals:
I hope to do more research on other video games and see if I can see any way that they would help a player think of ways to help deal with real world problems. I still feel pretty against her argument. But it may change in the future, you never know.
