Photo Essay: The Decline of Civic Stadium

September 4, 2009 was the last time any athlete walked down this hall to enter Civic Stadium.

In the four years since then Civic Stadium has slowly deteriorated into this decrepit state.

The field and stands have been overrun with weeds while the metal rusted and the some of the some of the wood has rot.

This dugout was home for the Eugene Emeralds for 40 years before they left for the new PK Park leaving Civic Stadium vacant.

As one of the 10 oldest Minor League Baseball stadiums that still stand in America, Civic Stadium is full of history. This is why its owners, the 4J school district, have kept it for so long.

However that is about to change, the school district is currently accepting proposals for the future of Civic Stadium. By December it’s fate will be decided.

Whether it becomes a supermarket or a YMCA, Civic Stadium will always hold a place in Eugene’s history.
