WEEK Below Zero

  • ISO Training – January 3 – 10 AM to 4 PM
    • This initial training sets you up for ISO and the initial connections you will make with incoming international students.
    • Peer Mentors confirmed to volunteer: Shan, Cheng, Remi, Dai, Jude
  • ISO – January 4-5
    • ISO leaders – During ISO, peer mentors will serve as leaders who help students navigate the week-long orientation to the University of Oregon. Peer mentors will wear different colored shirts to set them apart and will be responsible for large pieces of the orientation.
    • Peer Mentor Tour Around Eugene – January 4th from around 12 – 3:30 PM 
      • You’ll grab lunch with the new mentees/students at the EMU (at no cost to you – you’ll have a $10 card to use).

WEEK ONE (January 8-12) 

  • Peer Mentor Winter Training Meeting #1 – Monday, January 8, 2018 from 6:00-8:30 PM in Education 117
    • Agenda 
      • Food
      • Speaker: Silvina Sousa-Ransford, Associate Director for Residence Life will come to talk to us about housing!
        • How housing is working to be inclusive for international students.
        • Any changes to programming or involvement with the new live-on requirement.
        • The theory behind the live-on requirement – research showing success and completion improves!
        • Ways the peer mentors can support or participate in any first-year programming initiatives in housing that impact international students.
        • Who to refer mentees to when they are struggling with their housing situation.
      • Games
  • Welcome Party – January 11, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 PM in the Mills International Center
    •  Welcome your new mentees with this Welcome Party! Play games, eat food, make friends! Enjoy!
      • Social Media Star (Will post live videos or photos to Facebook and Instagram throughout the event): Not assigned.
      • Event Photographer (Will be responsible for taking pictures on a phone or with a personal camera throughout the event for future use): Michaela, Sun

WEEK TWO (January 15-19)

WEEK THREE (January 22-26)

  • Peer Mentor Winter Training Meeting #2 – Monday, January 22, 2018 from 6:00-8:30 PM in Education 117
    • Agenda
      • 6 PM – Tour of Yamada Learning Center
        • Meet in the Business School Lobby. We will walk over to visit the Yamada Learning Center and listen to Jeff Magoto speak about what they have to offer. 
      • Pizza for Dinner 
        • Meet back in Education 117.
      • Five of Anything! 
      • PM Debrief 
        • Who has met with mentees?

        • How have the AEIS class visits been going?
      • Event Planning 
        • Group One: IPMP Bday Party – You can change the theme! Write up a list of food desired (pizza is an option, if wanted). Write out a schedule. Assign who will do what! (Photos, MC, activities or games, etc.)
        • Group Two: Registration Party – Pick a date. Pick a location. Pick a time. Pick food/beverages for event.
        • Group Three: Other academic related workshops! – Brainstorm themes or topics. Select one idea. Select a time to do it (either winter or spring term).

    • Jane – Responsible for attendance envelope and EMU reservation and catering waiver paperwork. We will draw winners from this attendance sheet for gift cards.
    • Jude – Responsible for the wagon of food and drinks. Should plan to bring it back to OIA later the next day.

WEEK EIGHT (February 26-March 2)

  • Speed-Friending Event at the Mills International Center from 6-8 PM
    • Roles:

    • Catering should be set up at 6 PM. Catering will clean up after 8 PM. 🙂 Make sure you leave when catering starts to tear down.
