Spring Term Week 9 Updates!

Hi Peer Mentors!
Monday is our FINAL International Peer Mentor Meeting for the term! This is when we will be saying goodbye and sharing about our achievements and learning from the term. The meeting is from 5-7 PM and we’ll be in Hedco 146. I will be coming from another meeting in the EMU so I would like to plan to start a little late – at about 5:15. Let’s plan to start then! 🙂
Additionally, the International Picnic is THIS Saturday from 12-2 PM! Please plan to be there and WEAR YOUR SHIRTS! The OIA photographer will be there to take pictures of peer mentors at the picnic. The Duck will be there so please make sure to show up! 🙂
Also, please complete your Spring Term Check-In form. It’s the final one for the term!
Also – WHO has the sign in sheet from your study night? Please make sure to get that to me as soon as possible!
Thanks!

Week Six Updates

Hey Peer Mentors!

We’ve had the group interview for the incoming peer mentors! Shout out to Michaela for helping observe and provide feedback for the new and returning applicants! And shout out to Shan, Jude, Remi, Jane, and Rita for returning and representing the program so well! Woot! Woot! I can share more with you about this at our next meeting, but first – let’s focus on OUR cohort and spring term!

The Study Night has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 22nd from 6 to 8 PM in the EMU Rogue Room (140). Pato, Sylvia, Linshu, and Shan have said they can attend and facilitate the study group! Thanks! We’ll determine who will pick up the wagon or bags of snacks at our next meeting on May 21st.

The end of the year/term potluck has been replace with the ISSS picnic for ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS! Please plan to attend! Wear your shirts! And invite your mentees! This will be on Saturday, June 2nd in Gerlinger Lawn from 12-2 PM. The ISO folks will be sending out invites to all students soon.

We have two more meetings this term. You’re required to attend. Non-attendance can result in dismissal from the peer mentor program. Leaders have to show up in order to lead, right? Some of you have arranged to have 1-1s because your classes conflict with the meetings. This is A-okay. If things do come up, please make sure you email me in advance.

Thanks so much for your time!

Sincerely,

Sharece

Week Three Updates

Hi Peer Mentors!

The check-in form for spring term is up! You can see the due dates and the link to the form here.

Please remember that our meeting next week will be combined with the International Cultural Liaisons. I’ll plan out what we’ll do as a group, but please plan to be engaged and talk to your peers! 🙂

I posted the notes from the brainstorm at our meeting on 4/9 here. We’ll have a chance to work on our plans for more activities at our meeting meeting on 5/7.

Please email me if you have any questions!

Sports Night Planning!

Hey all!

Our Sports Night is planned for April 25th, 2018 from 6-8 PM in Gerlinger Annex B54.

I have confirmed that they can have the space set up with three areas: basketball, badminton, and yoga. We cannot rent out any yoga mats for the event so you’ll need to come up with how you’d like to navigate this.

Michaela has agreed to make a playlist, but there is no sound system to use. We can, however, bring in our own sound system to use if you have a portable boom box within the group.

As for who’s going to lead which activity, here’s the list:

Badminton: Sylvia and Pato

Basketball: Linshu and Jude

Yoga/Fitness Dance: Michaela and Xinpei

Remi is taking charge of Marketing through social media and making posters. We have 11 posters to distribute. Please help her pass them out!

Thanks all!

See you soon!

Best,

Sharece

Pre-Spring Term Updates

Hi Peer Mentors!
I hope you’re having a great day!
I wanted to let you know that the position description for the peer mentor role for 2018-19 is still open through April 6, 2018. If you’re a current mentor who wants to be part of the program next year, you MUST reapply and attend the group interviews!
Attendance to all the trainings and next year’s fall ISO is mandatory! We’re working to change ISO a bit to allow peer mentors more time to connect to mentees!
Our first meeting of spring term will be on April 9th from 5-7 PM. We’ll try to be done in 2 hours, but if you have extra questions or want to plan more, we’ll need an extra half hour.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Best,
Sharece M. Bunn
