Learning Objectives

After interviewing a few second year graduate students, I could come up with a short list of research methods, and also a series of questions that will help me develop my own personal research project. Most important was the fact that they gave me very good advises in undertaking such project.

  • The first advise they gave me was to work in something I enjoy; do not undergo a project for which there is no interest, or it will be unsuccessful. Based on this advise, I can say that one of my goals this term is to find something, a theme or objective, that interest me and is relevant to my professional career.
  • I asked some students to tell me some of the research methods they used, and what was more important when thinking of research methods. Both students told me that there was going to be a lot of reading and research, as well as a good research project contains lots of field work. Specifically, I have to search for similar research projects and try to see if they can be applied to my personal study; and also they recommended lots of interviews.
  • After telling my interviewees what was the focus of my research, they advised me to try to generate the correct questions to stay in focus of the main idea of the project.
  • Finally, they recommended patience, since the work is going to be subjected to many editions and changes that can frustrate the author.

Through this interviews and the responses I got, I was to generate a few learning goals for this class.

  • I hope to be able to find an interesting subject that relates to my field of interest
  • I hope that my research project becomes relevant not only to the study field itself, but to my personal development.
  • I hope to find the adequate information for my research.
  • I want to be able to generate relevant questions that will allow me to stay in the right course of my investigation.
  • I hope to have good help in guiding me and correcting my work.
