Dome of Rock
Looking back at the history of architecture, one interesting feature commonly seen throughout different time periods are domes. Domes are interesting for many reasons. Primarily for their structural engineering, in how weight is evenly distributed throughout the dome, which then allows for large open spaces without needing support from collumns and walls. We see this type of design in buildings like the Hagia Sophia, the Pantheon, and even The Dome of The Rock in Jerusalem, Israel. Domes also serve as a religious purpose which represent heaven and the divine. As for The Dome of The Rock, the dome is important for its relationship to G-D and religion.
