Ancient City Beneath the Acropolis Museum
One particular ruin that interests me is the archaeological site located beneath the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece. What interests me about these ruins is the story of their discovery. This site was discovered during the museum’s construction, halting construction at the site. Eventually, a competition was held to pick an architect to continue the museum’s construction while preserving the newly discovered ruins. The solution that was decided upon was to build the museum on elevated platforms above the ruins of ancient. Ultimately, the ruins became an exhibition of the museum itself, displaying the history of Athens, Greece. This archaeological site gives people a look into Greece’s past urban planning and architecture.
This ruin is very fascinating due to the fact that we can see they were built around this ruin to save the history that was once a great city, like what we talked about in class historical structures can have great meaning to people in the city. We see that these churches we talk about in class or these government buildings that are still holding up are what we call a great architectural design by the way its still standing for being so old.
