Online Course: Inclusive Education in Laos

Overview
The purpose of these online modules is to build the capacity of teachers working in primary schools to support students with disabilities in the classroom. The training is designed to introduce principles and values of inclusive education, how to develop Individualized Education Plans and goals, information about intellectual disabilities, information about autism, and specific methods to modify and adapt classroom activities, produce and use teaching aids made from local materials to support the full participation and effective learning of students with disabilities.
Whilst these teaching methods are targeting students with disabilities, most of the methods can be used with all students in the class to improve quality of teaching and facilitate effective, inclusive learning for all. The training is divided into 8 modules including:
- Definition and Values of Inclusive Schools
- Principles and Methods for Inclusive Teaching
- Individualized Education Plans (IEP) Overview and Definitions
- Developing and Writing IEP Goals
- Children with Intellectual Disabilities (ID)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder: Introduction and Educational Needs
- Supporting the Learning of Children with Autism in the Classroom
- Inclusive Teaching and Learning with Free and Low Cost Supplies
Instructions
- Complete each module in the order presented. Each module should take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete.
- At the beginning of each module, you will answer a few questions to see what you already know about the topic.
- Open the module presentation and read through it carefully, one page at a time.
- At the end of the module, answer the questions again, using the information you have learned in the module. The change in your score will help us know if our modules are effective.
- You must answer at least 60% of the questions correctly to receive a certificate of completion for the course.
- Continue on to the next module, until you have completed all 8 modules.
