Instructional Unit Summary:
On this page you will find a sequence of six lesson plans that focus on the integration of art and computer science concepts through the De Stijl art movement. Lessons one through five are each centered on a specific artist from this art movement as well as a fixed set of computational skills. These lessons use tutorials on the programming site for children called “Scratch” to teach computer science and coding concepts such as; conditionals, variables, sequencing, and parallelism. Lesson six provides students with the opportunity to display their knowledge of the De Stijl movement and coding concepts by creating an original “Scratch” project.
