SALISH SCHOOL OF BUILDING AND PRESERVATION ARTS
OLYMPIA BREWHOUSE, TUMWATER WASHINGTON
The Salish School of Building and Preservation Arts is a design-build program where skilled craft is honed and a dedication to historic preservation is nurtured. The iconic Old Olympia Brewhouse is perched on the bank of the Deschutes River overlooking the State Capitol Building. At this site steeped in history, students are immersed in a variety of courses, including: architecture and preservation methods and materials, drafting, architectural history and theory, and design-build studios.
The school campus occupies three buildings on the riverfront: evidence of a historically booming production site given life anew. After undergoing extensive seismic reinforcements and more gentle adaptive interventions, the Brewhouse Campus is a living exhibit for students and visitors to explore.
