HOPE BEYOND HOMELESSNESS: NONPROFIT RESOURCE CENTER

Corvallis, OR

In order to address the needs of homelessness broadly across the state of Oregon, the needs of the rural communities between the large hubs like Salem, Eugene and Portland must be looked at with an equitable approach. Corvallis, a rural location in the mid-Willamette Valley has been overlooked in the available resources for veterans, families and the elderly, and the resources available for accessible mental health. The Hope Beyond Homelessness project will respond to homelessness and will primarily focus on preventative care and support for those who are near homelessness while also responding to the immediate needs of those locals who are already homeless. The Hope Beyond Homelessness project goal is based on the existing causes behind homelessness, such as income inequality, health complications and disenfranchised communities. Also, exploring the problems behind existing resources, shelters or intake areas and meeting the needs of the homeless in socio-economic assistance, and mental and physical health using the model of the Social Determinants of Health. Lastly, using this space as a comparative program to a shelter, but instead understanding the main causes behind homelessness and discovering the crucial steps to prevention under the model of Trauma-Informed Care.
